Generac HomeLink 50A Manual Transfer Switch Kit Review
A 50A switch that feeds your whole panel today and accepts an automatic-start upgrade later.

The verdict
The 50A HomeLink takes the interlock concept upmarket: it back-feeds your entire load center through a 50A connection (12,500W), so any circuit in the house can be used โ you manage the total. The HomeLink line's party trick is upgradeability to automatic operation with Generac's aux kit and an electric-start generator. The premium manual option for big portables.
Typical price: ~$585 (typical street price โ current price shown on Amazon)

- +50A / 12,500W โ pairs with WGen9500DF/XP13000EH class machines
- +Whole-panel access: run any circuit, not a chosen six
- +Upgradeable to automatic transfer with add-on kit
- +Indoor/outdoor rated enclosure
- +Cleaner code path than DIY interlock in many jurisdictions
What to know
- โYou are the load manager โ no per-circuit guardrails
- โNeeds a 50A inlet box and heavy 50A cord (budget ~$200 more)
- โOverkill for generators under 7,500W
Full review
Once your generator can produce 9,500+ running watts, a 6-circuit/30A switch literally can't pass all the power you bought. The 50A HomeLink fixes that: 50 amps in, whole panel available, and you flip off what you don't need. For a disciplined owner that's more capability than any circuit-limited switch. (Note: Generac also sells a 30A HomeLink kit โ model 6853 โ for smaller generators; make sure you're buying the 50A version if your machine has a 14-50R outlet.)
The upgrade path is genuinely interesting: add Generac's automation kit and a compatible electric-start generator, and the system starts and transfers by itself โ a poor-man's standby at a fraction of the installed cost. Even if you never do it, the option costs nothing extra today.
Best for: Owners of 9,500W+ portables who want whole-panel flexibility and a future automatic option.
