DuroMax XP16000iHT Tri-Fuel Inverter Review

13,000 running watts on gas, propane, or natural gas, through an inverter — the highest-output tri-fuel inverter generator made.

DuroMax XP16000iHT Tri-Fuel Inverter

The verdict

The XP16000iHT is DuroMax's answer to a question nobody else in the inverter category was asking: what if the biggest tri-fuel open-frame generator ran through an inverter instead? Thirteen thousand running watts on gasoline — more than any inverter generator on the market, tri-fuel or otherwise — through a 744cc engine, two 50A outlets, and a 67 dBA noise rating that undercuts every open-frame machine with comparable output. It costs flagship money and then some, but for the household that needs whole-home-plus-AC wattage and can't tolerate open-frame noise, nothing else comes close.

What we like

  • +13,000 running / 16,000 peak watts (gas) — the highest-output tri-fuel inverter generator made, well above the Westinghouse iGen12000TFc's 9,000 running watts
  • +Tri-fuel: gasoline, propane, or natural gas, with runtime limited only by your utility on NG
  • +Two 14-50R 50A outlets plus remote electric start and CO Alert auto-shutoff
  • +67 dBA at 25% load — open-frame output at a fraction of open-frame noise
  • +5-year parts and technical-service warranty — the longest in DuroMax's inverter lineup

What to know

  • −Expensive — at $5,300 it costs nearly triple the Westinghouse iGen12000TFc for extra headroom most homes won't use
  • −368 lb; this lives where you park it, wheel kit or not
  • −Natural-gas derate is real: 11,200 running watts vs. 13,000 on gasoline
  • −New to DuroMax's largest-ever inverter class — no multi-year reliability record yet at this output

Full review

Every inverter generator in this guide has made the same trade: clean, quiet power in exchange for capped output, because inverter electronics historically couldn't scale past the 9,000–12,000 running watt range of Westinghouse's iGen12000TFc without exploding in cost or size. The XP16000iHT is DuroMax pushing straight through that ceiling — 13,000 running watts and 16,000 peak on gasoline, more than any tri-fuel inverter DuroMax or anyone else sells, through a 744cc engine that's the largest DuroMax has put behind inverter electronics.

The fuel math follows the rest of DuroMax's tri-fuel lineup: 12,350 running watts on propane, 11,200 on natural gas once it's plumbed to a quick-connect, with the NG mode's runtime limited only by the utility. Two 14-50R 50A outlets make it transfer-switch ready for a genuine whole-panel hookup, and at 67 dBA at light load, it's dramatically quieter than an open-frame generator of equivalent output — DuroMax's own XP15000HXT, a conventional open-frame tri-fuel at similar wattage, runs in the low-to-mid 70s dBA by comparison.

The honest reckoning is price: at roughly $5,300, the XP16000iHT costs nearly three times the Westinghouse iGen12000TFc's $1,949 for about 44% more running wattage, and close to what a small installed standby generator runs before the gas-line and permitting bills arrive. Buy it only when the load math — central air plus a well pump plus the rest of a large home — genuinely demands more than the iGen12000TFc's 9,000 running watts and open-frame noise is a hard no. For that specific, demanding brief, it's the only inverter generator built for the job.

Best for: Large homes and workshops that need more running wattage than any other inverter in this guide — central AC plus heavy equipment — without an open-frame generator's roar.
