The verdict
The WGen20000TFc is the biggest portable Westinghouse makes, and it plays a different game than everything else in this category: 20,000 running watts (16,000 on natural gas) through twin 50A outlets and a 125A hardwire terminal block means it can carry an entire large home, central air included, without load management. It costs standby-generator money, weighs 557 pounds, and is as loud as you'd expect. Buy it only when the load math genuinely demands it — but when it does, nothing else portable comes close.

Every other portable in this guide asks you to prioritize: essentials first, comfort if there's headroom. The WGen20000TFc doesn't. Twenty thousand running watts is more than a typical 200-amp house draws at any given moment, and the 125A terminal block lets an electrician hardwire it to a transfer switch the way a standby is connected, instead of routing everything through a 50A cord. On natural gas the derate lands at 16,000 running watts — still more than the Generac 14kW standby produces — and the runtime question disappears.
The machine is honest about what that costs. It weighs as much as a piano and needs a permanent spot near the gas line; it burns fuel at a rate that makes gasoline-only operation a short-term plan; and at 74-plus dBA it's a neighborhood event when it's running. The reviews that praise it are from people who did the load math and needed the number. The complaints come from people who bought the biggest one 'just in case.'
The real comparison is against an installed standby. Around $3,900 for the generator plus a transfer switch and a plumber's NG hookup gets you most of a whole-home standby's capability without the automatic transfer, the enclosure, or the permitting — and you can still tow it to the cabin. If you have natural gas, a big house, and a place to park it, that's a compelling deal. If you'd rather never think about it during an outage, the standby category is where the same money belongs.
Best for: Large homes, farms, and shops whose backup load — central AC, well pump, electric range, workshop — adds up past 13,000 watts.
