The failure chain is always the same: generator runs great in January, sits with half a tank of E10 through summer, won't start in the October storm. The ethanol absorbed water, the light ends evaporated, and the carburetor jets are varnished shut — a $120 carb-cleaning bill or a weekend of swearing, versus a capful of stabilizer per fill-up.
Belt and suspenders: stabilize every can when you fill it, and run the generator's fuel valve off until the carb runs dry before storage. Do both and your generator will start every time for a decade.
